Message of Feminism
2002, March 26 - 12:25 a.m.

There is this guy who just recently came on this message Board I've been frequenting. It's an Earth's Children message board. We were discussing who would be great as actors and actresses in an Earth's Children mini series and this fool says Pamela Anderson could be the beautiful, naive yet wise, earth mother-goddess like Ayla. Ha! He also thought this ugly wrestler would make a good Jondalar; Jondalar who is beautiful, yet masculine, sensitive and sensual, lean yet cut with muscle. I don't think so! He has also gone on to insult every female board member. You don't enter a forum and then push all the women around! He then had the audacity to tell us to toughen up. It's predominantly female and we all like to be respectful to one another's opinions and feelings. We don't want some man's man, chauvinist pig to barge in and tell us how to make interesting debates. There are plenty of men on the forum who are great. They share their ideas from their male point of view and listen to what the women have to say.

This guy went on and on about how posing topless wasn't porn and seems to be of the opinion that it's okay to sexualize women. I only mentioned once that I was disappointed in a certain actress who would be a great Ayla because she did such poses. I was saddened that this woman felt the need to sell herself not with hard work and talent but by using her body. I find it hard to respect that. As a woman I find it hard to respect any woman who uses her body in such a way. We are not things or sex objects and we shouldn't present ourselves in such a way.

The ass seemed to think it was liberating for women to be able to pose half naked. I think it sets women back. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't feminism mean, on top of being everyone's equal, that we are more than just our bodies?

Women in the president's chair - feminism

Women giving the president a lap dance - not feminism.

I have no problem with men wanting to look at attractive women. I do have a problem with men (the man I'm speaking of specifically) saying that these women are role models. I know he's not looking at Pam and thinking, "wow, she's talented and I bet she's smart too. What a wonderful, successful woman." I bet anything he's thinking, "She's hot. I want her. She has nice tits. I want to fuck this woman."

My point is...she's a crappy actress. And he thinks it's okay to compromise this wise, goddess-like woman for the sake of having a big titted blond in the movie for him to gawk at "Her tits bounce...d'uh."

I can't help but get just a little angry over this.
