Jerry's Day at the Vet
2003, March 1 - 11:38 a.m.

The vet appointment was a typical one. There was an unbelievable wait for the cab though. The lines were all busy and it took forever to come.

As per usual the cats knew where they were going so when we brought them out to the waiting cab (when it finally got there) they fought and struggled against us. Once in the cab Smokey did his Prisoner of War routine and curled up in a ball and was inflexible. Jerry is by far the best traveller.

The appointment went fine. Jerry is definitely allergic to fleas. While he was being examined, I sat Smokey on a chair in the corner (he hates the metal table and gets rather aggressive on it.) He snuggled into a nervous ball of fur and kept his eyes low.

Jerry was co-operate and let the vet clean off his sores. The skin looks pretty good under the scabs so that is a good sign. The flea collar he had been wearing had aggravated his already sensitive flea bitten skin and even after it was gone, Smokey was still wearing his. So the sores were explainable. Smokey's collar is gone now too.

Jerry has to take anti-biotic tablets and Smokey got de-fleaed with this stuff called revolution. It kills everything that shouldn't be there. Just a quick squirt onto the back of his neck.

So now they're both flea free and that would have been the end of it, but the cab back home was another half hour wait. It was a tad stressful with the two cats there, wrapped in old towels with dog after dog prancing by. They handled themselves well. It's like pets all know that the vet is a place to mind your own business and territory is about one cubic foot.

Jerry is supposed to completely heal and look the same as always in 6 weeks. I'm really annoyed at my dad for all the fuss he was putting over this cat. Cripes. The way he was talking, I thought Jerry was on his death bed. He was ready to put the poor thing down. The vet told me that other than Jerry's treatable condition and his heart murmor that he's had for a long time, he's in pretty good shape for a cat of 10 years. Heck!

No more listening to my father's diagnosis on anything!
