Jamie's Big Move
2003. June 5 - 12:03 a.m.

So Jamie is all moved in. This actually happened on Monday. It was a rough time.

The Bank of Montreal had given Jamie all the wrong information so the money that was supposed to be issued to him for his moving expenses and whatnot didn't come in. Gah. Aunt Debbie and Jamie had to run down to the money guy's office and have him write out a cheque.

Then after we loaded in stuff from Aunt Anne-Marie's (two chairs, a coffee table and linens), we went to Jamie's new place and the land lady wasn't there. Now his landlady is a sort of hippie and very nice. Aunt Debbie was sure she had said before 3 and it was 1:15.

We figure we'll get Jamie's stuff at dad's and come back after. We unload the small things onto the side of the lawn to show we were there and head off. Dad knows Jamie is moving out and has a key. So what does he do? He locks the deadbolt to which Jamie has no key. We're locked out. The rented van is sitting in the driveway, Me, Aunt Debbie, Jamie and my cousin Shaun are standing there like idiots and the door is locked. He never uses that lock unless he wants to keep Jamie out. I think this is a side effect of opperation 'steal cats.'

So Jamie opens his bedroom window and steals his way in and unlocks the door.

We make a mad dash to empty Jamie's room only of things he needs. We leave plenty behind. I run around the house looking for things that were my mother's and that are still in good condition. I find some wooden cat things, collectable detailed bears, a glass cat candle holder, two wooden cat pieces, a crystal owl and a country-ish shelf. Oh and a little lamp. I also take the big living room lamp that had been gievn to me as a house warming present from another aunt.

Haha!

We're in and out in 20 minutes. Had Dad decided to come home for lunch he would have gone absolutely crazy. He probably went nuts when he actually did come home but that was also the day I had the phone disconnected. He probably stormed around with no one to yell at over the phone for some time.

We also talked to the upstairs neighbor of his and she was happy Jamie was leaving. The last fight she heard was Jamie yelling, You're choking me, I can't breathe. That was the police escort night. Jamie had pushed Dad into a window when Dad was strangling him. The window broke and that's how Dad's hand was cut.

Dad isn't too well thought of by his neighbors.

When we got back to Jamie's new place, Hippie still wasn't there so they all went out to eat. Not me; I stayed behind, I was still sick and not hungry at all. Hippie came five minutes after they left.

It was smooth sailing for the rest of the day. Jamie's new place is cute; he's all set up. Close to school and groceries, no more Dad... He'll be fine. I kinda wish he'd call though, just to let us know how he's doing.

Though, from now on, I know I'll worry much less. Plus now I no longer have to deal with Dad ever again.
