I hate the Tories
2003, October 16 - 6:50 a.m.

I'm a day away from having nine beautiful days off. Reading week is here! See, Sheridan forfeits having a frosh week to give us a week off halfway through the semester instead. I am in favour of this because after having up to four months off, I don't need my week off at the beginning of school; I'd much rather have it now.

But in order to get there I have to get through my midterm in Law and Ethics tomorrow. It's a more university based class with only three opportunities to gain marks with a load of lectures. That means that tomorrow's exam is quite important.

However, I'm not concerned. I will look over my notes a couple times but I know it's all safely locked in my head. Not only that, I know it's there to stay. Unlike a lot of bullshit type classes in high school or elsewhere, a lot of college classes teach only what we will need for our future jobs/careers. Thus no superfluous information gets in and it all becomes second nature knowledge.

At this point, because of dear Leslie's (teacher) instruction, I am confident I can have a very well rounded discussion on politics, media law and 1900 century economics. I have also discovered I am a socialist.

It's funny, I always thought I was a liberal - right in the centre of the political spectrum. Nope. I am a socialist and thus an NDP.

I believe in public ownership, I do not believe in the private sector. I believe in paying taxes to fund the necessities to a point but to really bring in the big guns, I believe that publicly owned enterprises such as the LCBO are beyond beneficial.

I also never knew how much I hated conservatives. The Tories can kiss my socialist ass. I don't get them. They don't get what a socialist country we really are. Hello, the welfare state? Healthcare? Year long maternity and paternity leave?

These conservative jokers don't think that the LCBO should belong to the people but to the private sector. They think that this cash cow should go to the private sector, where all that cash can fall into someone else's pocket. Not only that, into the hands of people who are more likely to cut corners to make more profit (i.e. poor product for more money.)

They believe in private education. They like to pull money out of education and expect that anyone who really cares enough will pull their kids out of the public classrooms and shove them into a private class instead.

They don't believe in public healthcare. Oh no, they think we should all pay for it. Not with taxes that can be determined on who can afford to pay what but out of the pockets of the citizens directly. Somehow the idea of someone going bankrupt to pay hospital bills doesn't bother them.

They think it's ok to pay low wages if there is a lot of labour at hand, even if people can't reasonably expect to live on such wages. They are the ones who increased tuition and froze minimum wage.

In fundamental capitalism, you know what happens to the really poor who can't survive in the system without assistance? They die. Yeah, they die and that is what is supposed to happen to even out the playing field and create a shortage of labour and thus make companies raise wages to be competitive. People have to die in the capitalism system for it to work.

I hate the Tories and the fact that they merged with the frigging alliance really pisses me off. Now all the damn ass conservative votes will be lumped together and everyone who doesn't want them in will vote Liberal and that leaves nothing for the NDP and Green party. We're becoming a two party system very slowly and that thought scares me.

I really think those conservative ass holes should go to the States where they put up with that kind of crap. I don't want them and their poor screwing, gay hating, resource raping ways here.
