No Candle in the Wind
2005, September 8 - 6:42 p.m.

While I'm work I can't stop reading things about the hurricane. When I see it on TV it has my attention. I am so bothered by what happened there. I am distressed by the lack of support these people have recieved. Where was the food? Water? Medical help? Where?

Why did Bush take so little action? Why did FEMA suck so much? Where are the plans for these poor, devastated people?

It has really been eye opening. I've heard about the mass violence, the rapes and murders and utter lawlessness on the streets of New Orleans now. I've heard about the kindness and heroics of simple people and great people who have little or plenty to offer and offer it freely. I've not heard about the president's actions because there are none to report.

What will happen now? These people were left far too long and suffering aside, what kinds of disease have they contracted? Those waters are toxic, the Superdome was Dante's ninth level of Hell with waste, excrement and unbearable heat and no water, food or medical supplies.

What about all the people who can no longer support themselves? What about the environmental damage? What about the loss of businesses and commerce? What about the mass loss of human life that seems almost impossible to handle all coming in at once?

It's frankly horriffic.

These people have less than nothing. Homes, possessions, family, friends, jobs, health, lives have all been damaged, depleted, destroyed or decimated. I can't imagine the hopelessness.

If this had to happen, too bad it didn't happen in a place where Bush actually gave half a shit about the people. OR at a time where someone competent was in charge. Hideous lack of compassion for black people, though, seems to run in the family. Fucking Barbara Bush. You know, lady, just because people are "underpriviled" doesn't mean losing everything, including loved ones, is a good thing just because they can relocate somewhere else. People have roots, dreams, families and lives. Even the poor non-whites, wouldn't you know it? Get a clue.
